Uses

HOCl occurs naturally in all mammals’ immune systems. Its ability to fight viruses, bacteria, and fungi have made it quite useful for various purposes beyond mammals. For example, HOCl can be used as a surface disinfectant and sanitizer. HOCl is food surface and contact safe, as well as safe to use around children and pets. It can be applied directly to the skin to treat a variety of ailments and wounds. It can be used as a hand sanitizer, used for certain eye infections, eczema treatment, wound care, mild cases of acne, athlete’s foot, avian care, agriculture, and a wide range of other applications. When dispensed via foggers and misters, HOCl is highly effective in the microbial disinfection of surfaces in settings such as classrooms, hospitals, clinics, nurseries, offices, and so on.

When the appropriate concentrations are used, studies have found 99.9% to 99.999% reductions in viral load of all tested viruses on both vertical and horizontal surfaces. Recent studies indicate HOCl is also an effective method to disinfect for viruses such as the COVID-19 virus. The research on the uses of HOCl is extensive.

With its excellent safety profile, HOCl can be used to disinfect large areas quickly with a broad range of bactericidal and virucidal effects.
