Can All Hand Sanitizers Be Trusted?
Part 1
The pandemic created a higher demand than normal for hand sanitizers. To keep up to demand, Health Canada allowed the temporary use of substances that had not previously been considered. This urgency to get as much hand sanitizer on the market – as quickly as possible – resulted in chemicals such as acetaldehyde and benzene being used in some hand sanitizer formulations, although both chemicals have been linked to cancer. Some of these hand sanitizers have since been recalled by Health Canada. It makes one wonder just how safe other chemical-based hand sanitizers really are.
Research has validated HOCl as a non-toxic, non-irritating, and eco-friendly disinfectant and antiseptic for many different industries. You can lessen some of the uncertainty around a pandemic by selecting a disinfectant that is known to be safe – HOCl.
